Thanks (actually, no thanks) to a nasty and severe sensitivity to MSG I avoid it at all costs. Unfortunately this used to mean that I didn't get to eat a lot of my favorite foods (right down to the condiments) but with a little research I found an easy recipe that fills my need for BBQ goodness. It takes very little time and is free from questionable ingredients.
28 oz can of tomato puree
1/2 cup water
1/3 cup apple cider vinegar
3 T. yellow mustard
1 T. onion powder
1 T. garlic powder
1 t. salt
1 t. cayenne pepper (or to taste, some may like less, some more)
1/4 t. pepper
1/4 t. basil
1/4 t. celery salt
1 t. lemon juice
1/2 cup water
1/3 cup apple cider vinegar
3 T. yellow mustard
1 T. onion powder
1 T. garlic powder
1 t. salt
1 t. cayenne pepper (or to taste, some may like less, some more)
1/4 t. pepper
1/4 t. basil
1/4 t. celery salt
1 t. lemon juice
Combine all ingredients and simmer for 15 min. on med. heat. Cover or it will make a mess on your stove!
Allow to cool completely. I store mine in a clean ketchup bottle. The flavor is best after allowed to sit in the fridge for a day or so. Keep refrigerated. Enjoy!
